In a world where robots deliver packages, algorithms diagnose, and AI optimises calendars, you may be wondering if we really need project managers anymore. Well, we have found 10 compelling reasons why that species called “project managers” should finally retire.
1. Artificial intelligence is taking over project management:
Why should we employ expensive project managers when AI systems can organise everything? Let’s leave all the decisions to our friendly robots! After all, they have access to databases full of information and can perform analyses at lightning speed. If a machine has a better overview of project details than a human, why bother with a project manager?
2. Teamwork is overrated in project management:
Project managers talk about teamwork and communication all the time. But who needs that? Everyone can work for themselves, right? Imagine how much more efficient everything would be if everyone could just stew in their own juices without having to consider others. The time saved by not having those endless meetings would be used so much more wisely – like taking a nap!
3. budgets are there to be exceeded in project management:
Who cares about budgets? It’s much more fun to spend money than to save it. Project managers spoil the fun by constantly making sure you stick to budget. Yet we all know that budgets are meant to be exceeded. Where is the thrill in that?
4. Time is relative in project management:
Deadlines are just estimates, right? So why worry about punctuality? Let’s do everything by feeling. After all, Albert Einstein said that time is relative, so let’s just get rid of this rigid notion of time and live in the flow.
5. Risk is an adventure in project management:
Project managers always talk about risk management. But why not just put it all on the line and see what happens? After all, adventures are exciting! If we constantly play it safe, we miss the chance to achieve really great things. Risks are like the spices of life – without them, everything would be bland.
6. Paperwork makes for happy project management:
Instead of using digital tools, let’s create mountains of paper. Project managers love documents, spreadsheets and reports. Who needs trees? Nature will be fine if we cut down a few more trees to print out our endless reports. Besides, who needs clear digital document management when you can spend hours digging through stacks of paper?
7. "Being the boss" is out in project management:
Who needs a boss or a leader? We can all make our own decisions and do our own thing, right? The concept of leadership is overrated. In an ideal world, we could all just do what we want without worrying about responsibility.
8. Problems solve themselves in project management:
Why worry about problems? Eventually they will solve themselves, or someone else will take care of them. If we always worry about every problem, we take away the opportunity for others to prove themselves and find solutions. Let’s just wait and drink tea until everything works itself out.
9. Excel is our best tool in project management:
Excel spreadsheets can solve everything, right? We don’t need to mess around with complicated project management tools. Who needs user-friendly software when you can spend hours typing formulas into Excel? And if the spreadsheet crashes and data is lost, that’s just another reason to complain about the project manager.
10. Chaos is exciting in project management:
Project managers try to bring order to chaos. But isn’t chaos much more exciting? Let’s just let things run their course and see what happens! When everything is in a holy mess, at least we have a good story to tell.
Clearly, project managers are no longer needed. But then the next problem comes up: Who will pay the pension for the many project managers without projects?
